The easiest way to find out what’s wrong with your overhead door is to try our free garage door troubleshooter. We’ve put a lot of effort into developing a user-friendly and free way to diagnose any garage door problem without wasting your time and money.

Our troubleshooting bot will walk you through the necessary steps and let you know the exact problem you have and the accurate quote for the repair. Based on that knowledge, you can decide whether you would like to book an appointment with us or call other companies for a quote.

If your garage door starts to open up but stops about a foot from the ground and won’t go any further, you most likely have a broken spring. An average garage door weighs several hundred pounds, as it’s made of steel shell, which is filled with insulation material.

By design, the springs store a massive amount of tension to provide the necessary force and keep your door balanced enough for your opener to lift it. Therefore when one of the springs breaks, the door becomes much heavier, and the opener won’t be able to lift it. Please note, trying to force your door up by clicking on the remote or wall station might damage the garage door opener internals.

If your door won’t go up at all, and you can’t see any movement from the opener’s chain or belt, pull on the emergency cord and unhook the door from the rail. Try to lift the door by hand and see if it’s not too heavy. Unfortunately, if the door goes up with no issues, that means your opener is to blame. At this stage, check the breakers and make sure there is power at the outlets and the LED lights on the wall button are on. Unplug the opener, wait for 30 seconds and pug it back. If nothing helps, unfortunately, the opener will need to be replaced.

The most common cause for this is misaligned sensors, which is usually an easy fix. Locate your garage door sensors at the bottom portion of the door tracks. Make sure nothing blocks them. It is easy to cover one of them with a garbage bin, tools, or other belongings people keep inside the garage. Clean the lens on both sensors and make sure they face one another. See if the LED indicators are on and inspect the wiring. In most cases you can solve a sensor issue on your own. However, professional garage door help might be needed if one of them failed and you need a replacement.

If your garage door is stuck and out of level, that means one of your cables snapped. Unfortunately, at this point, you will have to call a professional garage door repair company in Southwest Calgary to get it fixed for you. This fairly complex and dangerous repair is not recommended for DIY.
At Calgary Garage Door Fix, we’re always happy to assist and offer our expertise in getting your garage door back to life. We do understand the frustration and inconvenience a broken garage door can cause. Call us today, and one of our dedicated technicians will get to your Calgary SW residence in no time.
